L'ENTRACTE
2021, le monde de la culture est encore à l'arrêt. Les portes des théâtres sont closes. Sur la scène, des costumes sont à l’abandon. Quelques pages de textes traînent ici et là. Vidé de toute présence, l’endroit semble avoir perdu la magie qui lui est propre.
Alors je me demande, lorsque les théâtres deviennent des lieux interdits, qu'advient-il des personnages ? Eux qui ne vivent habituellement qu’entre ces murs, vont-ils pouvoir s’en sortir dehors ? Que vont-ils devenir sans nous ? J'ai posé ces questions à des artistes, clowns, échassiers, comédiens, marionnettistes, de France et d'Estonie. Ils y ont répondu en interprétant, pour quelques heures, leur personnage. Chacune de ces photographies est un temps de rencontre et d'improvisation.
THE INTERVAL
2021 - the cultural sector is still at a standstill. After two years of the pandemic, the doors of theatres remain firmly shut. Pages of script, with words that once echoed through the building, now lie on the stage. Costumes and props that once commanded and captivated an audience are now strewn lifeless across the theatre. Empty and deserted - the theatre now seems to be an empty shell, devoid of the magic of its former self.
So I wonder: what happens to the characters when theatres become forbidden places? They who lived and breathed within these walls but are now displaced - how do they now adapt and survive without their stage and audience? I posed these questions to artists, clowns, stilt-walkers, actors, and puppeteers in France and Estonia. They answered through an interpretation of their resurrected characters. These photographs capture that moment of conversation, performance, and improvisation.
